About
Hi there, my name is Alexis and I am a 20-year-old female who lives in the USA. (I’m no professional counselor on depression or on mental health. I’m just a young lady who wants to share my experiences on mental health and other struggles that I’ve dealt with in my life.) My main objective for this blog is to post ways how you can better you're lives for the upcoming year. What I'm talking about is effects of going through depression, sudden loss of a family member or a friend, suicide, etc. All of these can play a huge impact on how you feel about yourself and how you live your daily life, and how you interact with those around you and how you interact with yourself. Trust me when I say this: there is so much more for you to offer the world and for you to improve your lives. When people tell you that you can't overcome your depression, the addictions, the grief that you're feeling. When they tell you that the pain that you’re feeling will only get worse, and nothing can make it go away; well don’t listen to them because they’re wrong. I know and I've seen people overcome their struggles and they have become a better person and they’ve treated themselves and others with a lot more respect and dignity.
I too have dealt with the grief of losing a loved ones out of the blue and it hurt a lot. I know that they wouldn’t want me spending my time grieving over them for the rest of my life, and I know that they’d want me to honor their memories and remember the fun times we’ve spent together. So I know what it’s like to feel saddened by that person’s passing, but just know you’re not alone. I also struggle with bipolar depression and ADHD, and I have people in my life who have helped me realize that there's so much more to life than wallowing in self-pity and grief. Without them, I'd probably be dead, because while I was going through a suicidal period I thought I had no one but in reality, I did and do. They helped me see the light in this darkness and helped me overcome my troubles and hardships. But that doesn't mean I still don't struggle with daily hardships and griefs, but this just means I have learned how to overcome them and move on with my life.
Because dwelling on past mistakes and hardships aren't what we, as humans, are meant to do. If all we were to ever do is dwell on the past and all the negativity that had happened to us, then we’d never get anywhere in life. We are meant to move forward with the future and see the light at the end of the tunnel. If you’re feeling down and feel like there’s no way out, always remember this: tomorrow will always be a better day, but it's up to you to make it a better day. Only you have the key to change your life and nobody else can change it for you. If you are stuck between a rock and a hard place remember this; try thinking of at least three things that have made you smiled and that make you feel good inside. Then when things seem to be getting worse, remember those three things that make you feel happy and those thoughts should make your attitude towards the world slightly better. Remember that you are not alone in your suffering and hardships and if you ever need to talk to someone I'll be here to listen to you. Or maybe you just feel like no one understands you and what you're going through: You can always email me at [email protected] and I'll email you back as soon as I can.
